Abstract

The Gryllidae family, consisting of crickets, plays a significant ecological and economic role, with over 900 species found worldwide. Crickets are highly adaptable and thrive in a variety of habitats. While they are often considered pests, particularly in the early growth stages of chili plants, they also provide numerous benefits. This study explores the ecological, nutritional, and economic potential of crickets, focusing on their roles in organic matter decomposition, as a source of animal feed, and as a sustainable food source. The research methodology used is a literature review, analyzing studies published between 2013 and 2023 that examine the role of crickets in agriculture, their nutritional content, and their use in different industries. Data were primarily sourced from Google Scholar. The results indicate that crickets have a high protein content, exceeding 60% of their dry weight, making them a valuable alternative protein source. Furthermore, crickets serve as bioindicators, showing sensitivity to environmental changes such as habitat disturbances, soil quality, and pollution levels. In conclusion, crickets represent a promising resource with significant ecological, nutritional, and economic benefits, contributing to sustainable agriculture and offering an alternative protein source for various industries.
